test drive your mobile life ..

September 15, 2010

Launching at the London Design Festival 2010, The Applounge, a pop-up experience in the heart of London’s Soho, brings together fashion, mobile apps and lifestyle accessories.

Over a coffee or cocktail, meet with friends and discover which accessories best match your mobile lifestyle, through three carefully curated collections: Urban Voyager, On the town, City Dweller. From The Applounge borrow an iPad to test-drive your experience on the road or take it home to play from the comfort of your own sofa.

Ultimately, The Applounge is a design experiment in changing the face of retail and as part of this Alexander Grundsteidl ( of Digital Well Being Labs ) wanted to extend the experience beyond the boundaries of the “shop”.

Through using Ecomodo and our concept of “try before you buy” we have enabled Alex to deliver this experience. Borrowing before buying helps potential customers check-out how a product really fits into their life; how useful it is over a few days; how easy it is to use in the street or on a train; and whether it can connects to the other technology they already use.

Find The Applounge at Meza, 100 Wardour Street, London. W1F 0TN from: 15 September until 02 October 2010. Opening times: Monday to Saturday 12pm to late. Map

The Applounge is a collaboration between: Digital Well Being Labs, Method,, SpotSpotOn and Meza.

we got fry’d

May 28, 2010

Very early on this chilly Friday morning, I joined the queue of frenzied consumers outside the Apple Store on Regent Street to get my hands on one of the first UK iPads. Our plan: Lend the iPad on to promote two things ..

1. People don’t need to run a marathon to raise money for charity they can simply lend out their assets and help people around them.

2. To inspire people to borrow instead of buying or if they have to buy: Try it first and make sure it’s really what you want to spend your money on.

Just one hour after purchase it was available on . You could now borrow an iPad in London and play with it from the comfort of your own sofa. We truly thought this would be our big news of the day until Stephen Fry tweeted ..

@stephenfry Rather a cool idea @ecomodo Borrow an #iPad for £18. Proceeds to @PrincesTrust – whole new world of temp ownership.

Now we’re cookin’. The response was extraordinary and caused our servers to crash momentarily. That’s #frypower for you.
